Weddings in Eleuthera Bahamas
In my 15 years in the Bahamas, Eleuthera remains one of my favourite islands as a place to visit for some real R & R.
In more recent times, I've had the pleasure of being chosen as wedding photographer for several brides and grooms choosing the tranquil escape of Eleuthera and Harbour Island for their destination wedding.
The island itself is unique in its physical shape - two hundred miles long, yet at its narrowest points less than 50 feet wide. To the West, the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean, and to the East, the raging Atlantic ocean set the scene for an island full of contrasts and raw beauty unlike anywhere else in the world.
From north to south, the island is dotted with settlements and towns, from Upper and Lower Bogue in North Eleuthera, through Governor's Harbour in the middle and down to Rock Sound in the south. Each stop along the way has its own unique charm, from lively characters in the tiny villages to colourful caribbean homes and buildings, from luxury hotels with modern marinas, to rustic natural bays with wooden sailboats form a time gone by swaying lazily in crystal clear waters.
2 minutes north of the very tip of Eleuthera lies Harbour Island, made world famous by its pink sands beach, and its international appeal to residents such as supermodel Elle MacPherson. The island's stunning beauty and quint colonial-caribbean architecture make it a popular choice for celebrities and brides-to-be alike.
As a wedding destination, offers something for every bride, from high end hotels overlooking stunning beachfront views, to historic churches, to a simple wedding ceremony on a powder soft beach stretching for miles in either direction - its all there, just waiting.
For a photographer, the landscapes, seascapes, flora and fauna create afford endless possibilities. For a wedding photographer, the backdrop provides beauty, romance and a natural energy that can make for some unique and emotive wedding memories.
I've had the honour of shooting several weddings on the island, on the beach, in tiniest of churches, and in expansive private homes overlooking the ocean. Each one has left its mark not only in wonderfully memorable photographs for the bride and groom, but forever with me as another wonderful experience on this most unique island.
